ABOUT
With a longing for unfettered self-expression, Los Angeles based singer-songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Taylor Jules paints us her contemplative diary. Heart-drenched in bittersweet musings and velvet vocal textures, her music is melodic, reflective and primed for indie-pop infatuations. Jules, who has recently opened up about her childhood diagnosis with auto-immune diseases, has taken the uncertainties of coming into her own, and translated them into lyrically rich, relatable songs that breathe easy and make us feel like brighter days are ahead.
Born and raised on the Westside of Los Angeles, Jules was no stranger to the magnetic pull of the entertainment industry and started performing at the young age of five. With musical influences like Anne Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Allen Stone and Carole King, Jules has been crafting her soulful genre-bending sound ever since. After scoring the lead vocalist spot in a prestigious musical program, she spent four years performing in legendary venues across the country. By the time she was thirteen, she had garnered a breadth of experience on the road, sharing the stage with musical greats such as Jackson Browne, Robbie Kreiger (the Doors), Dale Crover (the Melvins), and Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses), and appearing on the Russell Brand show and the Heidi and Frank show on KLOS radio. Jules has fronted rock, soul and pop bands while honing her authentic voice as an artist.
While growing up, Jules kept two secrets from her classmates, and disappeared many evenings and weekends. “As a child, I kept my artist life mostly secret from my fellow 12-year-old peers,” says Jules. “Kids were often very mean about my singing. They would tell me to stop and make fun of me. In hindsight, I wish I would have been secure enough to share some of my childhood secret rockstar life.” Coinciding with this time of great artistic growth and awkward adolescent years, Jules began experiencing some physical and unexplained symptoms. “When I was eight, I started feeling severe pains in my knees and hips,” she recollects. “I received multiple MRI’s, which of course revealed nothing. Over the next five years, my pain got increasingly worse and started to spread throughout my body, with no rhyme or reason. Finally around thirteen, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, amplified pain syndrome, and later Fibromyalgia.
Jules has learned to embrace life’s challenges without being defined by them. Her music has become a translative channel to navigate relationships, connect with others, and share joy and positivity. She strives to help educate and advocate for those who are struggling by sharing her story and using her songs to uplift and empower.
“Helicopter,” the first single from her forthcoming extended play, echoes themes of unbridled infatuation and the fleeting joy of one-sided love. The song is set to release in January of 2023.
